Looking to get a serious workspace at home but don't have enough room for it? Here's how you can create a professional work zone within a limited space.
Owning a home-office is not limited to people who live in big homes. By putting on your creative hat and managing the space well, you can create your own workstation at home. The corners, your walls and wardrobe can be turned into a cozy workspace. Read on to know how to create your workspace at home.
If you are incorporating your workspace into your living room or bedroom, then painting that section of the wall in a different colour can help bifurcate the area.
Make use of the vertical space by incorporating floating shelves or racks;
Identify corners or spaces that are less used and set up your desk there;
Adding office furniture like a lamp, stationery, storage bins, notepads helps you identify the space as your work zone;
Incorporate a bunk bed or levitate your bed and use the space below as your workspace;
You can also section off an area with curtains or a bookshelf to maintain privacy;
Create a niche in your cabinets and keep a space open to work at your desk.
Making life easier
working from home has allowed her to completely eliminate the commute time and create a worklife balance. Also, during lean seasons, she does not have to worry about office rent.
"You can set up your office in a lesser used corner. A corner near the window is ideal to set up a mini-office. Just add a sleek table and lots of open shelves in the corner,".
It's personal
You can also make your home office personal by incorporating things that you love and things that keep you motivated, says Sid Balachandran, Bengaluru-based freelance writer, blogger and web designer.
Dedicated space: When I decided that I wanted to change careers and work as a freelance writer and designer, I knew I wanted a dedicated space.
Not procrastinating: Most people think that workfrom-home means that a lot of us just laze in front of the TV on the couch with the laptop on our laps. Having a dedicated workspace makes you take your work seriously and thus, your productivity doesn't suffer.
Balance: Having a dedicated space helps you stay organised and separates your personal and professional lives; I am less likely to be disturbed when I'm sitting at my space, than when I’m sitting at the dining table.
Motivation: I like a little bit of freshness on my table, so I've got some flowers in a small vase in a corner. Working alone can get quite monotonous and boring at times; so I've also kept two trophies that I won for blogging - which helps keep me motivated.
On the wall: I've got a small whiteboard on the wall where I mark my projects, deadlines and keep a list of to-do things.
No distractions
Minimalist decor:
With minimal furnishing, you are more likely to avoid being distracted and stay focused. So ensure that you only have things that you require.
